Welcome to 2021!

 In Greystoke Galloper

Welcome to our new weekly blog with news on runners, news from the yard and some fun pictures to go with it.

It’s been a chilly couple of weeks here in Greystoke, with some extremely cold mornings. Once again we are in a beautiful winter wonderland fit for a postcard! However, it is a little frustrating with the loss of race meetings and interruption to our usual work routine. Hopefully things will warm up soon.

Unfortunately with the loss of Kelso on Sunday, we only have one meeting over the weekend. We head to Market Rasen tomorrow with 2 runners. Two of our lovely veterans run in the 2.40; Chidswell is having his first run over hurdles for a while and is partnered tomorrow by Brian Hughes. Looking Well is set for his second run of the season and is partnered by Ryan Day. We hope they can both run nice races and can look forward to targeting some nice staying chases in the spring.

Next week we head to Ayr on Monday where conditions will be fairly testing. We have entries in several races. Royal Arcade is entered in the 2m4f maiden hurdle on the card. He’s a nice, big, scopey type who can hopefully make a promising debut. Tidal Point holds an entry in the 3m novices hurdle. Formerly trained for the flat, he schools nicely at home and is ready to make his debut over hurdles. The exciting Marown is entered in the 2m novices chase. He also has an option later in the week. Bullion Boss is entered in the 3 mile handicap hurdle. He got off the mark in very pleasing fashion at Musselburgh last time, his first run for the MS Borders syndicate. We have two nice prospects pencilled in for the bumper on the card, Everyday Champagne and Parisencore. Both horses are promising types and we look forward to getting their careers underway.

On Wednesday Newcastle hold an added jumpers bumper meeting. She’s a Rocca, Taking Flight, Serious Ego, Holme Abbey and Top Billing all hold entries on the card. The all weather surface will be a new experience for each of them if they take their chance.

Thursday we turn to the all weather flat card at Newcastle with Wilhelm Vonvenster holding an entry in the 1m handicap. Musselburgh stage a meeting on Friday and we are looking to have a number of entries.

Our staff are all working hard in difficult weather conditions and difficult times so a big well done to all of them. They’ve still managed to find time to have fun and embrace the weather!

With no social activities, some of our staff are providing their own entertainment. Here is our very own (borrowed from Ireland) Brian Donovan…

We hope that you are all keeping safe and we look forward to seeing some familiar faces back at the races and in the yard again soon.
