Rural Racing

 In Greystoke Galloper

It’s nice to be back with some racing this week following a hard week of frost last week.

The ground here is very wet but surely some spring weather must soon be around the corner and our better ground horses will be in favour of that.
It will be nice to allow the horses some turnout time again once the ground dries. It’s always nice to see the horses giving a buck and a kick out in the fields and enjoying some freedom.

All national hunt racing fans will be counting down the days to the start of the spring festivals headed by Cheltenham in just over three weeks time. A magical time for jump racing.

Today we had 2 runners at Kelso.
Serious Ego was travelling nicely in his race when making a bad mistake and unseating his rider.
Release The Kraken ran with promise, staying on nicely to finish 4th. Unfortunately they failed to go through the wings of the final hurdle and it resulted in disqualification.

Tomorrow we go to Haydock where Marown runs in the 1.30. He ran a super race at the track last time when finishing 2nd in a Grade 2 and we’re hoping he can give another bold show tomorrow. Sean Quinlan is booked to take the ride.

We have 2 meetings on Sunday.
At Uttoxeter, My Old Gold runs in the 2.32.
She was none the worse for a final fence fall at Doncaster last time. Hopefully she will be able to get into a nice rhythm with her jumping with just 4 runners in the race, and run nicely. Sean Quinlan will ride.

At Market Rasen, Fly By Milan runs in the final race on the card at 4.55.
He has run two solid races and hopefully the experience can stand him in good stead. He will be ridden by Ryan Day.

Our staff are doing a good job as always, at home and away at the races. It’s difficult for some of them that have been unable to see their families for some time.

A big well done to last weeks quiz winners. Steven won the draw for the calendar but he tied on points with Jez. Well done to everyone who took part. We hope you enjoyed it.

If you follow our social media, you may have already seen a sneaky announcement we made earlier…..

We can now reveal what we were filming for a few weeks ago, was Countryfile! This will be broadcast on BBC ONE, Sunday 21st, 7pm. We’re thrilled to be part of such a renowned show and hope you enjoy a good insight into the day to day running of the yard.

Once again we hope you all stay safe and take care.
