Looking Ahead

It’s been a quiet week with runners for us, which has meant we’ve been able to enjoy the excitement of Cheltenham. Some of the team were there to support Danny McMenamin for his ride in the Champion Hurdle on Tuesday and Lyall Hodgins – another of our jockeys, has a ride in the St. James’s Place Festival Challenge Cup Open Hunters’ Chase later today. He rides Senor Lombardy who is trained just down the road with Brian & Kelly Harding. We wish them the best of luck and hope they all have a fantastic day.

At home it’s been business as usual with all horses working away nicely. We’ve had some nicer weather in the last week, which is great for our good ground horses but not so much for those who need the softer ground! We have two runners at Newcastle on Saturday, Kajaki in the 4:50 Handicap Hurdle and Bray Dale in the bumper. Bray Dale won a point to point bumper at the end of January for Brian and Kelly Harding and has now been switched to us for his rules debut. Danny McMenamin rides both.

We will be heading up the road to Carlisle on Sunday with Chapel Stile and Uncle Alastair declared for the Veterans’ Chase. Also running is Snowy Clouds in the Novices’ Handicap Hurdle at 3:25 and Marown in the 4:00 Handicap Chase.

A few entries next week, including Serious Ego who has options of Wetherby or Haydock, Wetherby currently looking the most likely as the ground is soft. On the opposite end of the scale, Parisencore will be hoping Haydock stays on the drier side for his race on Wednesday.

We’re also looking ahead to the Ayr and Aintree festivals at the beginning of April and we have made a couple of entries for the Scottish Champion Hurdle with Soft Risk and Nells Son. It’s exciting to have horses like this in the yard and we’ll be hoping for a smooth preparation with them both.

Last week, our now four year olds returned from their winter break and are back in work. They are all carrying plenty of condition and we look forward to what the future holds for them. Four of them are still looking for owners, whether that be individual owners, partnerships or syndicates. Ownership doesn’t have to be expensive and we are planning to set up another limited syndicate for at least one of these horses.
