July Update
28/07/22
We are starting to get busier now, with horses coming back in from their holidays. The stables are all cleaned and painted and we are looking forward to bringing them all back into work in preparation for the autumn/winter.
A couple of weeks ago we welcomed ‘Greystoke Owners’ for a visit to see their horse Serious Ego before he comes back in from the field. It was a great afternoon with the weather finally starting to warm up a bit. With a bit of luck, once we have enjoyed the rest of summer, we will have a wetter autumn/winter and Serious will get the heavy ground he needs.
Our horses were all kept cool and refreshed during the unexpected hot weather. We started earlier so we could exercise them before it got too hot and then they all enjoyed a nice cold hose down when they came back in. In the afternoon they were all washed off instead of being brushed.
Nicky headed back over to Ireland again, this time to the July Tattersalls Store Sales where he secured some outstanding horses; a Buck’s Boom gelding, a Milan filly and a Court Cave filly. They have all remained in Ireland to be broken in and we are excited for what’s to come.
On Tuesday night we were thrilled to see veteran Caius Marcius get his head in front in a hurdle race at Perth. He was stepped up to three miles for the first time after running a great race over two and a half last time out.
As of next week, there is a two week gap in the jump racing calendar, we will dedicate this time to getting the last few horses in from the field and start preparing them for the coming season. They will all begin with light road work for a few weeks, before starting to have steady canters and gradually increase their work load to get them fit and ready for the season ahead.
Our early purchases, the Jukebox Jury and Masked Marvel have been progressing well. They have both been for a schooling session at a local equestrian centre, teaching them how to use themselves properly and jump in the correct way.
