In Greystoke Galloper

Nab Wood and Ruby Island make it a treble on the day for Nicky Richards Greystoke stable at Ayr

Nab Wood followed up the sparking display of its stablemate Upon Tweed in the opener at Ayr on Saturday by winning the United Council of Racecourse Bookmakers Handicap Hurdle over 3 miles half a furlong.

Nab Wood was settled in 5th by jockey Danny McMenamin over the 3 mile trip, always travelling well behind the leaders. Danny produced him to challenge jumping the second last hurdle, although Nab Wood made a small mistake at the last, once Danny asked him to master the leader Whistle Stop Tour, Nab Wood quickened up smartly to settle the issue half way up the run to win cosily by a length and quarter for owner Edward Ware and trainer Nicky Richards.

Nab Wood is a 8 year old gelding by Court Cave and is very lightly raced having had only 10 races in his entire career.

There looks sure to be much more improvement and progress in Nab Wood.

Things got even better for Nicky Richards Greystoke stable a hour later when Ruby Island won the Bet With On Course Bookmakers Novices Limited Handicap Chase over 2 miles half a furlong.

Danny McMenamin, who was completing a treble, settled the 8 year old mare in the rear of the field,  Always jumping well Danny made steady headway turning for home and produced Ruby Island to challenge jumping the second last fence. Once Danny asked the mare to go and win her race she quickly drew away to win by 7 lengths.

Ruby Island is a beautiful jumper of a fence and she looks sure to progress for trainer Nicky Richards and owners Buckingham and Ritzema.

The season looks exciting for Greystoke in 2025/ 2026 and Saturday rewarded the hard work of the whole team at Nicky Richards.
