In Greystoke Galloper

Its a triple celebration for Nicky Richards with Two winners and Special 1000 winners milestone at Newcastle yesterday

It was a red letter day at Newcastle yesterday for the Nicky Richards Greystoke stable.

It all started with Jethol De Thaix in the Equine Products NH Trainers League Novices Handicap Hurdle over 2 miles 6 furlongs.  The 7 year old tracked the leaders for most of the race and despite still being a novice at a number of hurdles, Danny McMenamin produced him to challenge after jumping the last and he comfortably held the runner up to win by one and three quarter lengths for owner Mr Frank Bird. Jethol is lightly raced and looks to have lots more improvement in him.

The win put Nicky Richards in elite bracket of trainers who have trained 1000 winners.

Things got even better later in the day when Smokeringinthedark won the the Border Minstrel New Menu Handicap Hurdle over 2 miles 4 furlongs. Again settled behind the leaders by Danny McMenamin he was produced to challenge after the last and he quickened to win by a comfortable two lengths for owners Eddie Melville and Kenny Haughey.

This was a very special day for Nicky and the Greystoke team. Training 1000 winners is a brilliant achievement and it will be upwards and onwards for the whole team towards the next milestone. The hard work of the whole team and the beautiful surroundings of the Lake District make this a special place for the training of horses.
