It’s Nicky Richards at the double at Market Rasen and Sedgefield
Although there is 135 miles between them this did not stop Nicky Richards recording a double at Market Rasen and Sedgefield on Thursday.
The day started on a great high when the hugely talented Japetus won the Tractor Drivers Go Free Today Maiden Hurdle at Market Rasen. Japetus, ridden by stable jockey Danny McMenamin, won a highly competitive race to make it three wins in row for the classy 4 year old. Always just behind the Ben Pauling, favourite, and leader Lock Stock, Danny produced him to challenge on the run to the last hurdle. Although about 3 lengths behind on the run in, Japetus showed great determination and a excellent turn of foot to to win by half a length going away. This a great result for Nicky and owner Mrs Pat Sloan.
About one and a half hours later La Zoubida completed a double for the Greystoke team when she won the SpraycladUk NE Ltd Mares Maiden Hurdle. Settled of the pace by jockey Sean Quinlan, the 5 year old mare made steady progress leaving the back straight to challenge the leaders. La Zoubida struck the front on the run to the last hurdle and although the James Owen Girl of Gold, who was receiving 6 lb, challenged on the run La Zoubida found extra to win cosily by a length. The was the mares first run over hurdles and she jumped great most of the way round. This was only La Zoubida’s fourth race and she has won two and been placed second once. She ran in the mares big bumper at Aintree where the ground was too fast for her to show her true ability. There was great celebration in the winner’s enclosure by the Fine Claret Racing syndicate.
The two winners today continued the excellent form of Nicky Richards Greystoke stable.
